Abstract

A hot CO2 cell inside a CO2 laser cavity introduces selective losses for the regular emission lines and is known to lead to sequence band oscillation.1 Bistable switching between regular and sequence lines was observed in a cw CO2 laser when the hot CO2 cell pressure, at 600 K, was scanned. Below 10 Torr the laser in our experiments operated at any of sixty regular lines in the 9.4- or 10.6-μm bands selected by a diffraction grating.
