Abstract

The collisional relaxation rate constants of various molecules have been measured by many workers. However, most of them are concerned with only the relaxation caused by the dipole-dipole Interaction, To study the dipole–quadrupole and the dipole-induced dipole interaction, it is necessary to measure the relaxation rate constant of the molecule which has a large permanent dipole moment. A CH3CN molecule has a large permanent dipole moment and is adequate for this purpose.
