Polarization Noise Properties of GaAlAs Lasers

Abstract

Since single-mode GaAlAs lasers are used as a source in fiber-optic sensors and coherent communications, many papers investigating the noise properties of these lasers have been published. In general, little attention has been paid to the polarization properties, particularly the noise associated with the polarization states of these devices. These properties are pertinent to systems using conventional fiber, as well as those composed of polarization-maintaining fiber and devices.
