Abstract
The formation of spontaneous periodic structures on solid (and liquid) surfaces during laser illumination has recently attracted a great deal of interest.1–4 These ripples can have both deleterious and possibly beneficial effects in laser annealing, thin-film depositing, materials processing, and damage effects and can yield important physical information about the surface of the material involved.
