A guided-wave optical crossbar switch: technology and applications

Abstract

We discuss types of long-haul optical networks, and the optical crossconnects (OXCs) they require. We examine technologies for the switch fabrics in these OXCs, and argue that optical crossbar matrices are attractive in many applications.
