Variable Optical Attenuator for Large Scale Integration: Design and Optimization

Abstract

A thermo-optic variable optical attenuator design, based on controllable polymer waveguide bend radiation, is presented. Initial experiments demonstrated an attenuation range >30dB with an applied power of 250mW and average insertion losses of 1.5dB.
