Abstract

The capacity needed in telecommunications networks is rising sharply due to the rapid growth in internet traffic. This trend has led work in many laboratories to address the technologies that will be needed in future ultrafast optically time division multiplexed (OTDM) systems [1] and asynchronous digital optical networks [2], One technology essential for both is a compact means of demultiplexing an ultrafast optical signal down to the electronic base-rate.
