Abstract

Integrated optoelectronics would ideally incorporate both devices and waveguides for signal routing onto the same substrate. This would be particularly advantageous for the characteristics of size and ease of signal coupling between components of optical circuitry. Also, since most applications require single mode operation, it is essential to consider passive guiding structures which are both compatible with current devices as well as capable of propagating single mode signals. The modeling of the passive waveguide is therefore important and is the focus of this paper.
