Abstract
Optical interconnect has been widely agreed as a better choice for interconnecting different processors and memories whenever the conventional electrical interconnect can not fulfill the system requirements[1-4]. Among the optical interconnect architectures demonstrated thus far, global interconnects based on two-dimensional waveguide array and surface normal free-space interconnections represent current technology trends. Waveguide-based optical interconnects[5] are suitable for intra-board and module-to-module bus connections, while free-space interconnects[6] are suitable for board-to-board interconnections.
