Functional Fitting of Freeform Optics

Abstract

Functional fitting with orthonormal polynomials of point-cloud freeform optics is investigated. The amount of asymmetry of the optic drives the selection of Cartesian and/or polar basis sets. This parameterization allows design refinement, optimization, and tolerancing.
