Abstract
Presbyopia is a visual condition where the eyes' lenses have crystallized, and the eyes can no longer accommodate.1,2 A progressive addition lens (PAL) is a multifocal lens meant to give the presbyope clear vision at a range of viewing distances.3-5 Progressive addition lenses have a change in power from the upper (distance) region to the lower (near, or reading) region. 6 A power-gradient example for a typical PAL is shown below. 7 In this research, the design of progressive addition lenses via a gradient-index of refraction is considered.
