Long-lived High Power Optical Waveguides in Air

Abstract

We present interferometric measurements of the hydrodynamic response of a gas after passage of an intense ultrashort optical pulse and demonstrate that an array of femtosecond filaments creates a waveguide in the air with a millisecond lifetime.
