Ophthalmic Applications of Freeform Optics

Abstract

One major issue in using freeform optics to ophthalmic applications is accurate verification of surface shapes. In this work we applied SCOTS, a reverse Hartmann test, for the characterization of Progressive Addition Lenses. We take multiple SCOTS measurements from the same lens, but rotated. The data obtained were analyzed as a comparison between the ideal transverse ray aberration from a ZEMAX model, and the measured transverse ray aberration from the test. We found a wavefront RMS = 1.8μm is likely from the SCOTS system.
