Potential Benefits of Freeform Optics in On-Axis Imaging Applications

Abstract

Freeform optics could help to provide better performance for on-axis imaging applications. For high aspect ratios, we demonstrate superior imaging performance of basic freeform lenses in comparison to rotationally symmetric lenses, each consisting of two surfaces.
