Coaction of Disorder and PT-symmetry in Deep Subwavelength Multilayers

Abstract

We study nonHermitian PT-symmetric subwavelength photonic structures. Surprisingly, disorder lowers the critical gain/loss required to break PT-symmetry. Biasing these structures with loss makes them nearly perfect absorbers with a single input beam.
