Achromatic Design of Gradient Index Lenses using Ternary Blends

Abstract

The addition of a third material to a binary blend allows designers to specify refractive index and dispersion independently in gradient index optics. The effectiveness is demonstrated via a diffraction-limited, f/1 achromatic singlet design.
