Net Brillouin gain of 18.5 dB in a hybrid silicon chip

Abstract

We demonstrate a record high Brillouin gain in a silicon chip through hybrid integration. Negligible nonlinear losses lead to a net gain amplification of 18.5 dB in a compact (0.3 mm2) 5.7cm As2S3 spiral.
