Abstract

The continuous and pulsed CO<sup>2</sup>laser irradiation (10<sup>5</sup>-10<sup>7</sup>W/cm<sup>2</sup>) of silicates (quartz-SiO<sup>2</sup>, nepheline - Na[AlSiO<sup>4</sup>], rodonite - CaMn<sup>4</sup>[Si<sup>5</sup>O<sup>15</sup>], zircon - ZrSiO<sup>4</sup>etc.) lead to the creation of metallic and silicon nanoclusters at the surface.
