Radiation loss of coupled-resonator waveguides can be much lower than for single resonators

Abstract

We calculate the radiation loss rate of coupled-resonator optical waveguides in photonic-crystal slabs. In certain cases, the loss can be an order of magnitude lower than for a single resonator alone.
