Ultrafast Response of Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers (VCSEL’s) after Optical Pumping Using Chirped Pulses

Abstract

Large changes in the threshold energy are observed when optically pumping a VCSEL using quadratically chirped pulses; e.g. the laser switches off at large negative chirp. The results are analyzed using a microscopic rate-approximation model.
