Characteristics and applications of high-intensity THz pulses from an electron accelerator

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Ultra-short electron bunches in linear accelerators are sources of coherent THz pulses, similar to those from ultra-fast lasers (photoconductive switches or optical rectification), but with orders of magnitude greater pulse energies (~ 100 microjoules). A single pulse can be imaged by EO detection, indicating focused field strengths of ~ 1MV/cm. Full-text article is not available.
