Abstract

The feasibility of THz -Spectroscopy for identifying petroleum products and monitoring oil degradation in the spectral range of 40-600 cm−1 was investigated. Petroleum samples of commercial gasoline, diesel and lubricating oil identified at frequencies 464 cm−1, 475 cm−1 and 449 cm−1 respectively. Furthermore, characteristic frequency of aromatic compounds was revealed at 475, 464, 256, 146 cm−1.
