Abstract
Characteristics of the radiation fields in the proximity of inhomogeneous media are being described using concepts of statistical optics. Manipulating the statistical properties of the radiation at subwavelength scales provides new possibilities for the design of miniaturized optical sources and detectors and could also lead to the development of novel concepts for robust, integrated sensing techniques with resolution below the propagating light’s wavelength.
