Abstract

Minimally invasive medical procedures require flexible endoscopes that are thinner than existing devices while delivering high resolution images. The scanning fiber endoscope (SFE) described meets these requirements. Prototype SFEs with a 2 mm diameter distal tip envelope and better than 10 micron resolution have been developed.
