Abstract

Whispering gallery mode semiconductor microresonators coupled to waveguides have the potential to serve as basic active elements in photonic integrated circuits (PICs) to perform many different functions in the circuit. Microresonators are demonstrated to provide gain, filtering, detection and modulation in PICs using an integration scheme compatible with all functionalities.
