Abstract

A cylindrical one-dimensional model with radial refractive index distribution is introduced for predicting transmission properties of photonic crystal and holey fibers. It is shown that the results for chromatic dispersion and effective area obtained from the proposed model are in good agreement with those calculated using full vector numerical methods.
