Abstract

The temperature dependence of the energy transfer upconversion in erbium depends on competing energy transfer mechanisms. Spectroscopic techniques are used to determine the optimum temperature for upconversion fluorescence and the temperature dependence of the energy migration regime. Implications for upconversion lasing are given.
