Abstract

Extended periods of hyperglycemia lead to the accumulation of advanced glycation endproducts (AGEs), whose levels can be predictive of diabetes onset. We examine changes in the Raman spectra of porcine dermis samples incubated at various glucose levels. Analysis indicates there is a Raman signature useful for quantitation of skin-collagen AGEs.
