Abstract

We have constructed a simple optical system to control small droplets over a wide range of sizes (30 μm −1.5 mm diameter), based on the thermal Marangoni effect. We observed droplet fusion and rapid mixing (<30 ms), and we have performed an absorption-based protein detection assay.
