Energy transport in dispersive media

Abstract

The notion of energy in dispersive/dissipative media is developed as the dynamical ability of lossy media to do work against the field. Incoherence among oscillator species dictates this “recoverable energy” is exceeded by the kinetic and potential energies of media constituents. Connections to well-known anomalous energy transport phenomenology are made.
