Polarization effects in optical communication systems

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

This tutorial will introduce and illustrate concepts important to the understanding of polarization effects in optical fiber transmission systems. The discussion will include optical birefringence, dynamic eigenstates, polarization mode dispersion (PMD), impairments and outage probabilities due to PMD, as well as coherent cross-talk and four-wave mixing in polarization multiplexed systems.Full-text article is not available.
