Abstract
We show that the combination of cross-phase modulation and polarization-mode dispersion inside an optical fiber leads to the novel phenomenon of intrapulse depolarization. We use a pumpprobe configuration to reveal that pump-induced temporal fluctuations in the probe polarization affect the frequency chirp and lead to considerable spectral fluctuations.
