Abstract
Complex fiber Bragg gratings (FBG) incorporate specific phase-shifts along the FBG length, which allow new functionality and spectral performance. The phase shifts are used in sampled grating DBR lasers, sampled multichannel gratings, and phase-shift band-pass gratings. The phase-shifts are easily fabricated in an e-beam phase mask with high accuracy. It was assumed that the phase-shifts in the phase mask are replicated in the fiber during the FBG side-writing process. However, this approach is approximate.
