Polariztion imaging in retinal disease

Abstract

Retinal images are comprised of light returning from tissues that are directly backscattering, or polarization-preserving, and multiply scattering, or depolarizing. By analyzing the polarization content of retinal images, pathological structures in age-related macular degeneration, macular hole, diabetes, and glaucoma are revealed in a non-invasive manner.
