Abstract

Confocal reflectance microscopy may enable real-time in vivo imaging and mapping of the margins of primary cutaneous melanoma. Confocal maps of primary, pigmented and amelanotic cutaneous melanomas show excellent correlation to histology. Subclinical, subsurface tumor margins may be determined for pre-surgical planning, to guide biopsy and excision.
