Abstract

We present a 3-D optical interconnect concept based on stacked waveguide films with embedded devices and optical Z-connections. Theoretical analysis predicts that the 3-D modules achieve high-density/high-speed/low-loss optical wiring with switching capability by optimizing the layer count. Self-organized optical Z-connections and waveguide films with surface-normal mirrors are described.
