Random lasers as fascinating new light sources

Abstract

The emission and transport properties of disordered random materials with gain are studied both experimentally and theoretically. It is shown that narrow coherent emission modes can occur without the need for coherent feedback. In addition, switching and tuning of random lasers via temperature and electric field is reported.
