Abstract
Multimode lasing in systems with spatially inhomogeneous background dielectric constant is discussed with emphasize on disordered systems. It is shown that in spatially inhomogeneous resonators gain results in linear coupling between modes of an underlying passive medium. This coupling significantly modifies lasing dynamics causing linear mode locking and mode collapse.
