Abstract

We theoretically study a novel technique for improving the lateral mode enhancement of large-area oxide-confined VCSELs. Part of the Bragg stack is detuned from the central wavelength by concentrically varying its thickness. The resulting mirror reflectivity can be used to enhance the discrimination between lateral modes.
