Abstract

Spontaneous emission from atoms near nanostructured materials is considered. The emission probability is calculated for atoms placed near metallic gratings and dielectric ellipsoids. Focusing of light both in the near and in the far field regions is achieved. Detailed calculations of near field distributions and decay rates are offered.
