Abstract
The field distribution in the focal region of a beam inhibiting angular momentum, either by means of the state of polarization or by geometrical means, can be obtained with a vectorial, quasi analytic calculation scheme for a high numerical aperture imaging system. After interaction of the focussed beam with a set of typical structures placed in the focal plane, the reflected as well as the transmitted electromagnetic field has been studied. Since angular momentum is a preserved quantity, this feature can be used as an independent optical information channel.
