Abstract

While generation, manipulation, and detection of atomic quantum states in ultra-cold matter is well established within laboratory environments, the transfer of these techniques into field-compatible, miniaturized and user-friendly devices remains a major technological challenge. If these are overcome, pioneering applications in the areas of sensing, timekeeping and fundamental physics can be realized.
