Stochastic Backpropagation for Coherent Optical Communications

Abstract

We present stochastic backpropagation, a novel maximum a posteriori detection method for coherent optical communications. The proposed detector is shown to outperform conventional backpropagation in a scenario where nonlinear phase noise is the dominant impairment.
