Abstract
The Hilbert phase microscopy technique recently developed in our laboratory has been combined with an inverted microscope to obtain quantitative phase images from transparent and highly dynamic biological structures. Using this novel instrument, the nanometer level fluctuations of live red blood cells have been quantified on the 10 millisecond time scale.
