Tuning Minimal Holographic Image Formation Distance with SLM/Mask Hetero Structures

Abstract

The minimal reconstructed image formation distance of digital spatial light modulators (SLMs) is determined by the diffraction properties of their pixel structures. Typically the pixel size of SLMs is a few ten times larger than the wavelength of illuminating light. This causes the reconstructed images to be located away from the SLMs. This study shows how to control the minimal image formation distance by employing SLM/mask heterostructures.
