Abstract

Sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) is often used to treat metabolic acidemia, despite an established link between treatment and brain injury. We observe a sharp dose-dependent increase in cerebral blood flow after NaHCO3, possibly explaining the cause of this injury.
