Abstract
The generalization of standard polarization concepts to nonparaxial light is discussed, including an extension of the Poincaré sphere that is naturally connected to geometric phase, and the use of analogs of Stokes parameter in a microscopy technique for the joint determination of the 3D location and orientation of a fluorescing molecule.
