Precise characterization of rare-earth doped fibers for laser cooling using a non-contact method

Abstract

A non-contact, non-destructive method is presented for measuring the external quantum efficiency, background absorption, and resonance absorption of a Ytterbium-doped ZBLAN fiber. The precise values of these parameters are essential for optical refrigeration in fibers.
