Generation of coherent mid-IR light by parametric four-wave mixing in alkali vapor

Abstract

We demonstrate the generation of coherent mid-infrared light at 5.23 μm in hot rubidium vapor by parametric four wave mixing. Different regimes of competition between amplified spontaneous emission and four wave mixing are observed.
