Abstract

We report ytterbium-doped LMA fibers with ~30μm and ~40μm cores and a record-low NA of 0.028, i.e. ΔN=2.7×10−4, critical for overcoming transverse-mode-instability threshold in single-mode fiber lasers and made possible by an innovative fabrication process.
